About this service

Flexible respite care for participants, families and carers

NDIS respite care from Gaia Care gives participants a change of scenery and gives primary carers a well-earned break. We deliver in-home, centre-based and community respite across Brisbane Northside, Moreton Bay and surrounding suburbs — all delivered by NDIS-approved, fully trained support workers.

Respite isn't just a rest — for many people it's a chance to socialise, try new things and grow independence in a supported, comfortable setting.

Three flexible respite options

1. In-home respite (daytime or overnight)

A familiar Gaia Care support worker comes to your home so you can relax in your own environment while your usual carer takes time off. Shifts can run for a few hours, a full day, overnight or across several days.

2. Centre-based respite

Spend part of the day or stay overnight at a respite centre, with group activities, meals and supervised care. A great way to meet new people and try new things.

3. Community-based respite

Get out into the community for activities that build independence and social skills — local outings, group programs at a neighbourhood house, day trips or supported holidays. A support worker accompanies you so families can rest easy.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about NDIS Respite Care — Brisbane Northside & Moreton Bay

What is NDIS respite care?

Respite care (officially Short-Term Accommodation and Assistance, or STA) is short-term support that gives participants a break from their usual routine, and family carers a break from caring. It can be in-home, centre-based or community-based.

How is respite funded under the NDIS?

Respite is funded under Core Supports — usually Short-Term Accommodation (STA) for stays away from home, or Assistance with Daily Life for in-home respite. We help you use the budget effectively.

Can I choose where my respite happens?

Yes. You can stay at home with a Gaia Care support worker, go to a respite centre, or enjoy a community-based respite outing. Choice and control is yours.

How long can a respite stay last?

From a few hours, to overnight, to several weeks. STA funding is generally up to 28 days per year, used flexibly across the year.
