Respite Care

There might be a variety of options for respite care depending on where you live and how old your friend or family member is.

Daytime or overnight in-home respite

You will be visited by a caregiver. The carer might be available for just a few hours a week or for longer periods of time. You might have the person stay with your child, or they may take you out, such as to a local park.

Centre-based respite
They go to a centre and are cared for by a group for part of the day. Clubs and centres often organize outings, group activities, or holiday care programs.

Community access respite
This type of respite allows them to participate in activities that help them become independent and improve their social skills. It could be in a neighbourhood house or at a local health centre. A support worker may accompany you, or you might bring a member of your family to join you in community activities.
